Framed by the Light
Contrast in light and shadow plays a prominent role in my project Framed by the Light. I actively seek silhouetted figures who are framed by light, and the light is then cloaked in deep shadows. The use of black and white and quality of light transforms the city into a world of mysterious forms; the human figure acting as an anchor to reality.
This is a magical place full of contrast, lines and textures and I find I’m drawn to the darker corners of this realm which make the momentary glimpses of light all the more precious.
Framed by the Light zine is now available - click this link to purchase it! It's all about light and shadows (well, mainly shadows!) and features 32 pages of high contrast black and white street photography printed onto 200gsm 'silk' paper. The front and back covers are 250gsm matt laminated for a premium feel. It is saddle-stitch bound meaning the pages lay almost flat. All of the 24 photos taken over the last 4 years were shot in London and apart from that the main thing connecting them is the quality of light.
