(Re)constructing Deptford Zine

Look out for my zine (Re)constructing Deptford, which has been released!

I am pleased to announce the release of my zine (Re)constructing Deptford. It poses pertinent questions about community values in changing times. To do this, I take a location from Deptford which exhibits signs of gentrification and photograph it. I then innovatively layer people from different moments in time into the landscape image. Another feature of the zine is repeat photography: images taken from the same location with roughly a 6 month gap, depicting the 'then and now' of change occurring in Deptford. This makes the project distinctive in that it captures some of the essence of Deptford's character while also asking: What will its future bring?

I created the images, text and design myself and chose the location, Deptford, because it holds a special resonance with me. I grew up in the neighbouring area of Brockley so I've witnessed first-hand Deptford gradually transforming, with a more rapid shift in recent years. This zine is made for those interested in the dynamics of a changing urban space. Particularly though, it is for anybody familiar with the area, for example those who know the significance of the Anchor being relocated!

I have created a portrait oriented A5 zine comprised of 40 pages printed onto silk paper. The zine contains 14 colour composite images, along with accompanying poems. The front and back cover are silk paper with matt lamination and are colour.

The initial print run will be 50 copies and will retail for £8. Copies will be made purchasable online and in bookshops local to Deptford.
